Abstract: Single cell protein (SCP) was produced from sugarcane bagasse with saccharomyces cerevisiae in solid state fermentation. Tray bioreactor for solid state fermentation was used. Some of the variables that were affected in the process were optimized. Bagasse pretreatment done with NaOH solution. Protein yield and cellulotic activity were determined. Among the extraction buffers used, the carbonate-bicarbonate buffer at pH 10 was found to be most effective in extracting out proteins. The optimum condition is found to be 350 C bioreactor temperature. Bagasse pretreatment with 2% (w / v) NaOH solution gave better results. Maximum protein yield was obtained at 13.4% (gr / g original substrate).
