Abstract: Target tracking is one of the main applications of wireless sensor network (WSN). The major challenge in designing target tracking approaches is to deal with the energy and computational limitations of sensor nodes. To address this issue, relay strategies providing cooperative diversity inWSN have received considerable attention. Among the proposed techniques, the amplify-and-forward (AF) technique because of its simplicity and low computing time / power consumption is morepractical in WSN. Therefore, we propose an AF scheme that allocates the total power to best relays which are selected to signal the signal to noise ratio (SNR). The relay ordering function based on instantaneous forward and backward channels is used for multiple relay selections. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed technique provides full range and significantly better performance than schemes with the participation of all relay nodes with equal global power constraints
