Abstract: The mass transfer coefficient in a pulsed perforated solvent extraction column was calculated using plug flow and axial dispersion models (PFM and ADM). ADM is a developed model of PFM, in which the additional effect of axial mixing on mass transfer has been considered. All Koca values obtained from ADM are up to 50% more than those obtained using PFM. A new correlationfor the height of the transfer unit (HTUoc) based on Reynolds number and the pulse intensity is proposed in order to predict the axial mixing effect in the pulsed column
