Abstract: This paper aims to study the Friction Stir Welding (FSW) of Al-7Si-2Mg / 10% SiCp metal matrix composites. The effects of the tool rotational speed and the number of passes on the resulting microstructure and the final hardness of the friction stir-welded Al-7Si-2Mg / 10% SiCp were studied. The microstructural studies were done using an Optical Microscopy (OM). Also, the hardness test was performed in different regions of welded specimens. The results indicated an improvement in the hardness of the nugget area in comparison with the base metal due to the fragmentation of SiC particles, improved SiC distribution, and the refined matrix. By increasing the rotational speed and number of passes, a finer matrix was achieved. Also, the distribution of SiC particles was improved.
