Abstract: Underground transport systems for cars and trains are becoming more attractive means of conveying traffic, especially in congested urban areas around the world. Construction of these tunnels close to the surface of the ground as well as their rectangular shape make earthquake loading important. Methods of analysis of the earthquake loading of these structures are first reviewed and the comparative betwen numerical analysis and racking deformation method for a metro tunnel in tehran area is given in this paper.
