Abstract: The use of nonlinear loads such as computers, CFLs and … on power systems has increased the awareness of the potential reduction of a transformer's life due to increased heat loss. The performance analyzes of transformers in a harmonic environment require a load of current harmonic content and total THD. The extra heating experienced by a transformer depends on the harmonic content of the load current and the design principles of the transformer. In this paper, the performance of a 1000 KVA distribution transformer under supplying nonlinear loads with a measured THD% and load factor has been evaluated. The effect of current harmonics on load losses has been analyzed and then the derating capacity of the transformer is calculated based on IEEE C57-110 standard recommendations.
