Abstract: As a special kind of nonlinear systems, underactuated systems are of great interest both in theoretical research and real applications. The TORA (Translational Oscillator with Rotational Actuator) system is an underactuated system. This paper presents the control method of a TORA system in a plane using the Feedback Error Learning (FEL) scheme. An adaptive fuzzy network was used in this scheme, and backpropagation techniques were used as a learning algorithm for stabilizing TORA. The TORA system was developed as a simplified model of dual-spin spacecraft and rotary machines to investigate the resonance capture phenomenon.
