Abstract: A study is presented of stress concentration factors in tubular K-joints, which are commonly used in offshore platform structures. In this study, the finite element analysis method is used to model tubular K-joints under inplane moment loadings. The aberration of geometric joint parameters was explored to model K-joints. Along the intersection tip, a well-graded finite mesh is generated to boost stress concentration factors. The results of the finite element analyzes were first used to evaluate two sets of commonly used parametric equations that predict the mximum stress concentration factors on the chord's outer surfaces. They were then used to modify the existing parametric equation for predicting stress concentration factors. There is a good agreement between finite element analysis and modified parametric equation results.
