Abstract: Several applications of random vibration theory are proposed to solve the soil dynamics problem. The paper estimates the stochastic nonlinear deformation of an earth dam by several methods. Differences between taking into account different vibration modes or neglecting them and results obtained is discussed. It is important to note that stochastic method is more simple than iterative deterministic methods. The method in this paper is based on an inhomogeneous shear beam model of the dam and a random methodology.
