Abstract: A novel approach to Smooth Bandwidth Allocation (SBA) is proposed in this paper, which uses a multi-state decision mechanism to eliminate large fluctuations in the allocated bandwidth. This algorithm is a dynamic bandwidth allocation that predicts the bandwidth requirement for traffic input and traffic constraints. The major contribution of the proposed algorithm is to minimize the number of long fluctuations and the variance of the allocated bandwidth using a finite state which has five states. Simulation shows that SBA algorithm reduces 20% -45% of allocated bandwidth variance in contrast to similar methods, also reduces the number of long fluctuations to 30-45% of similar methods while the algorithm is precise and the queuing delay is low. Different self-similar traffic models are used in this experience.
