Abstract: In the present study time history, the dynamic analysis of structures is carried out using wavelet transform. The earthquake record is approximated by a discrete wavelet transform combined with a fast Fourier transform (FFT). The time history analysis for problems with a large number of degrees of freedom is time consuming. This makes the analysis process very inefficient. To overcome this difficulty, the discrete wavelet transform combined with a fast Fourier transform (WFT) is used to transfer the ground acceleration record of a specified earthquake into a function with less number of points. The numerical results of the dynamic analysis show that this approximation is a powerful technique and the required computational work can be greatly reduced. The error involved in this method is small.
